These are the preferred host-to-switch cables for 10G Myrinet clusters and for switch-to-switch connections in Myri-10G switch networks with more than 512 host ports. However, the more economical QSFP-terminated passive copper cables (product code 10G-QC-xM) may be used interchangably for cable lengths up to 5m.
Specifications:Myri-10G components with QSFP (Quad Small Form factor Pluggable) ports have "QP" product codes, such as the 10G-PCIE-8A-QP NIC or 10G-SW32LC-16QP switch line card. The QP ports employ XAUI signaling, 4 lanes in each direction of 3.125 GBaud signals, 8b/10b encoded, for a data rate of 10 Gb/s in each direction. See this Guide to Myri-10G PHYs (pdf).
These industry-standard QSFP-terminated Electrical-Optical-Electrical (EOE) cables are supplied to Myricom from multiple sources. It is possible to purchase cables to connect Myri-10G "QP" ports from other sources, but Myricom has qualified the EOE cables from each of our sources for interoperability, performance, and reliability, and tests every cable before shipment. Also, whereas the usual warranty on cables purchased from other sources is one year, Myricom provides the same 3-year warranty on these QSFP-terminated EOE cables as on other Myri-10G components.
Consistent with the QSFP multi-source agreement (MSA), the QSFP cable ends have a common mechanical specification, pinout, and management interface. The cable itself has four multimode fibers in each direction. The standard cables sold by Myricom are Riser Rated (OFNR). Plenum Rated (OFNP) cables are available at additional cost on special order.
Latency: The optical-fiber transceiver in each cable end has neglible latency. The "time of flight" latency in the fiber is ~5ns per meter.
Power: 1W typical per cable end.
Reduction of Hazardous Substances: These cables are RoHS-compliant lead-free (RoHS-6).
