Myri-10G Modular Switches |
These Myri-10G switch products are highly modular, and include a complete set of enterprise features.
The 10G-CLOS-ENCL enclosure provides the mechanical housing, power, cooling, network monitoring, status display, and a backplane into which you can plug up to 21 line cards. The left-most line-card slot is reserved for the 10G-MONITOR monitoring line card, which is included with the enclosure. The center 4 positions (slots 8, 9, 10, and 11) in this enclosure are always occupied by 10G-2SW16LC line cards, whose 8 16-port crossbar switches provide the "spine" of the Clos network. The remaining 16 line-card slots can be used for any of the other line cards listed.
The monitoring line card and other line cards may be "hot swapped" -- replaced without turning the power off. The dual redundant power supplies (10G-POWER) are also individually hot-swappable. The two fan units (10G-FAN), each with dual series fans, are hot-swappable. The rack-mount kit (10G-RACK-KIT) is a pair of telescoping shelf brackets to support the enclosure in standard 19-inch racks. Both for cooling and to contain EMI, any unused line-card slot must contain 10G-BLANK blank line cards.
The photograph to the right is of the rear, which is the exhaust-air side, of the switch. The front of the switch, which is the air-inlet side, includes only the two fan units and regulatory labels.
This switch has 128 host ports. The 64 ports on the left are 10GBase-CX4 ports using 8 10G-SW16LC-8C line cards. The 64 ports on the right are XAUI over ribbon fiber (-Q) ports using 8 10G-SW16LC-8Q line cards. The newest addition to the set of line cards, the 10G-SW16LC-6C2ER, provides 6 10GBase-CX4 Myrinet-protocol ports and 2 10GBase-R Ethernet-protocol ports. See the Myricom at SC06 news item for an early description of this new capability of Ethernet-protocol ports on Myri-10G switches.
Full specifications and documentation for the components of these Myri-10G modular switches is in preparation.
