SAN/Optical-Fiber and LAN/Optical-Fiber Converters



M2L-M2SC PhotoThese free-standing optical-fiber converters connect to a full-duplex pair of fibers using duplex SC connectors. The data rate on the fiber is 1 Gb/s in each direction. Myrinet flow control allows the converter to accommodate differences in rate between the fiber port and the LAN or SAN port.

These converters employ a high-grade, 1300nm, optical component that can be used with either single-mode or multimode fiber. The type and quality of the fiber determines the maximum distance for error-free operation:

For use in high-availability systems, these converters are transparent to BEAT (Myrinet heartbeat) control symbols and to illegal control symbols. These features are compatible with earlier Myrinet components.


Specifications

Myrinet-LAN port on the M2L-M2SC: 1.28+1.28 Gb/s or 0.64+0.64 Gb/s data rates selected automatically by the cable type.

Myrinet-SAN port on the M2M-M2SC: 1.28+1.28 Gb/s on the A link of the SAN connector; the B link is unused.

Optical-fiber port: 1.0+1.0 Gb/s data rate. The standard 64KB flow-control buffer is sufficient for fiber links up to 10,000m.

Physical characteristics: 9.5" x 6.5" x 1.2", 3 lbs, plus an AC adapter. Maximum-operating ambient temperature 50C.

Power: 8 Watts typical. An AC adapter appropriate to the shipping destination is supplied.

Approvals: Class 1 laser device. FCC A approval (M2L-M2SC only) pending. The AC adapter, which supplies +12V DC, is UL and CE approved.
