M3-E16, M3-E32, M3-E64, M3-E128 Enclosures for Myrinet-2000 Switches & Switch Networks

This family of enclosures provides the mechanical housing, power, cooling, and a built-in backplane network into which you can plug Myrinet-2000-switch line cards. The top line-card slot is reserved for an M3-M monitoring line card. The remaining slots are used for port line cards. Any port line card manufactured by Myricom can be used in any port-line-card slot of any enclosure. The enclosures differ in their height and number of slots in order to allow a choice of enclosure to best fit the application.

Specifications

Physical:

• Rack mounting conforms to the EIA-310 standard (19-inch rack mount). However, different mounting-hole patterns on the rack-mount ears can be supplied on special order.
• The nominal width of the enclosures is 17.18 inches (436.4mm), and the width to the edges of the rack-mount ears is 19 inches (482.6mm).
• The nominal depth of the enclosures is 17.5 inches (445 mm).

Enclosures are normally shipped assembled and tested with line cards in the configuration specified by the customer.

Note on the mechanical drawings: These drawings are provided only for installation planning. The metal chassis of these enclosures are produced for Myricom by several different vendors. There may be minor differences in the appearance, such as the grill-hole patterns, in the chassis manufactured by different vendors. However, the dimensions given in the drawings are the same for all vendors.

Environmental:

• Operating: Temperature 5C to 40C. Relative humidity 15% to 80% @ 40C, non-condensing.
• Storage: Temperature -40C to 70C. Relative humidity 90% @ 65C.
• Shock & vibration: conforms to EN 60068 (IEC 68)

Thermal and Cooling:

• Air flow is right-to-left (as viewed from the front) from a fan tray that can be hot-swapped from the front. Fan rotation speed is monitored, and can be read through the M3-M monitoring card. Power-supply fan cooling for the M3-E16 and M3-E32 is provided from the fan tray. Power-supply fan cooling for the M3-E64 and M3-E128 is built into the power supply. The fans on the fan trays are Panasonic "Panaflo" products with an MTTF of 500,000 hours (each).
• Internal temperatures are measured both upstream and downstream in the air flow on each line card. The temperatures can be monitored through the M3-M monitoring card. The line card will shut down autonomously on an over-temperature condition.

Power:

• IEC power inlet on the rear. All units are supplied with an IEC line card appropriate to the shipping destination. Note: The 100-127V~ IEC line cord for the M3-E128 is rated for 15A, whereas all of the other IEC line cords are rated for 10A.
• Power input: 100-127V~ / 200-240 V~, 50 Hz / 60 Hz.
• The power factor of all power supplies is at least 0.99.

Safety Approvals:

M3-E16, M3-E32, M3-E64, and M3-E128 are certified by TUV of North America, Inc., in accordance with the IEC System for Conformity Testing and Certification of Electrical Equipment (IECEE), CB Scheme (view the CB Certificate, 216KB jpg file). In addition, TUV certified these products to the US and Canadian safety standards (view the cTUVus Certificate, 163KB jpg file).

EMC Approvals:

The following configurations are within Class A limits for emission of and susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (EMI):

• M3-E16 with any combination of M3-M, M3-SW16-8F, M3-SPINE-8F, M3-SW16-8S, M3-SPINE-8S, or M3-SW12-4L line cards, provided that M3-BLANK panels are used in all slots without line cards.
• M3-E32, M3-E64, and M3-E128 with any combination of M3-M, M3-SW16-8F, or M3-SPINE-8F line cards, provided that M3-BLANK panels are used in all slots without line cards.
