M3-SW16-8M & M3-SW16-4DM

Myrinet-2000 16-Port-Switch Line Cards with 8 SAN Ports

These specifications concentrate on the physical characteristics of this product. Please see this Guide to Myrinet-2000 Switches and Switch Networks for information about the installation and the principles of operation of this family of products.

Specifications

Front-panel Myrinet-2000-SAN ports (8): each 2.0+2.0 Gb/s (SAN-2000) or 1.28+1.28 Gb/s (SAN-1280) at a front-panel SAN connector to a Myrinet SAN cable up to 3m in length. For the M3-SW16-8M, the SAN ports are on the A link of each of 8 SAN connectors, with the B link unused. For the M3-SW16-4DM, the SAN ports are on the A & B links of each of 4 SAN connectors. The default speed of the front-panel ports can be set individually to SAN-2000 or SAN-1280 with this switch:

The switch also allows the default setting for the High-Availability features to be on or off. The line card must be removed about 2 inches to be able to get to the switch. These default settings can be over-ridden from an M3-M monitoring line card, which communicates new settings to the small microcontroller on the line card.

Backplane Myrinet-2000-SAN ports (8): each 2.0+2.0 Gb/s at the backplane interface.

Microcontroller functions: Self-test, board identification, voltage monitoring, temperature monitoring (upstream & downstream in the air flow), and XBar16 scan path. Although these line cards have no front-panel LEDs, all status information is reported on demand through the serial link (to an M3-M monitoring line card). The µC will shut off the line-card power on over-temperature or other fault conditions.

Power requirements: Dual +12V input power @ 0.9A (10.8W) maximum. The line card is hot-swappable.

Physical characteristics: 9U-220mm card per IEEE 1101.10, with specialized connectorization. Detail dimensional specifications are given here. Weight 20oz (570g).

Regulatory Approvals: The SAN ports and cables radiate electromagnetic interference (EMI) is excess of FCC A levels. Switches and switch networks with SAN ports are for in-cabinet applications only.
