MX-2G 1.0 for Myrinet-2000/PCI-X NICs is available

Myricom is pleased to announce the release of the MX-2G 1.0 software for Myrinet-2000/PCI-X NICs. MX (Myrinet Express) is a high-performance, low-level, message-passing software interface tailored for Myrinet. MX exploits the processing capabilities embedded in the Myrinet NIC to provide exceptional performance for modern middleware interfaces such as MPI, enables low-overhead Ethernet emulation at link speed, and offers a simple API for third-party Myrinet software developers. For application or middleware developers who need to develop code using the MX API, refer to the MX API document. The MX-2G package currently includes MPICH-MX and beta Sockets-MX middleware, but this list is being expanded.

MX is the next generation of Myrinet software and firmware following GM-2. Myricom's Myrinet software support has always spanned two generations of Myrinet NICs. GM-2 was released in May 2003 together with the first of the PCI-X series of Myrinet NICs, but GM-2 was already "backported" to operate also with the previous PCI64 series NICs. MX was developed for the Myri-10G series of NICs, but MX-2G is already available on several operating systems for the PCI-X series of Myrinet NICs. MX-10G for the Myri-10G products will be released in September 2005. MX-2G and MX-10G are fully compatible at the API and application levels.

MX-2G 1.0 has been tested with

and is available for download on the Software and Customer Support webpage.

MPICH-MX Performance Graphs are available. In short, MX-2G 1.0 performance yields an MPI latency of 2.5µs on PCIXF NICs, an MPI latency of 2.6µs on PCIXE NICs, and an MPI latency of 3.2µs on PCIXD NICs.

Ethernet Emulation (IP over Myrinet/MX) performance measurements are also available.

Please note that Myricom plans to charge nominal license and support fees for MX-2G software after additional platforms and middleware (including MPICH2-MX and DAPL-MX) are added to the package.
