Windows NT 4.0 Support

Installing the Myrinet Driver

Myrinet Drivers need to be installed for the Myrinet Adapter to function correctly. The installation process begins from the Network Control Panel. (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network)

Go to the Adapters tab and select Add... This will bring up the Select Network Adapter dialog box.

Select Have Disk... to bring up the Insert Disk dialog box.

Type in the path to the location where you have unzipped the GM binaries and select OK. This will bring up the Select OEM Option dialog box.

There are two options when installing the Myrinet driver. The first option installs only the Myrinet driver. The second installs the Myrinet driver and also installs the Myrinet mapper as a service. The Myrinet mapper can be installed as a service that runs in the background or it can be run manually. The mapper service runs automatically when the system is booted and periodically remaps the entire network. Running the mapper manually is done with "gm_mapper_service active.args" or "gm_mapper_service map_once.args". The first invocation starts a mapper that runs forever, much like the server. The second invocation causes the mapper to map the network once and then terminate. The active.args file has comments describing the options that can be used for customization.

Verifying Driver Installation

The driver installation can be tested by running gm_board_info at a command prompt. gm_board_info provides informtion about the Myrinet adapter as well as routing information. This is an indication that the GM driver has loaded successfully. Routing information will be omitted and the text "*** No routes found ***" will appear if no primary mapper is detected. The text "No boards found or all ports busy" is usually an indication that the GM driver is not loading successfully.

TCP/IP Support

Myrinet adapters can be set up to use the TCP/IP protocol. TCP/IP must first be installed. Consult Windows documentation on how to install new network protocols. GM versions prior to 1.1.1 come with TCP/IP support enabled by default while versions 1.1.1 and above disable TCP/IP support by default.

You will need to enable TCP/IP support if you are using newer versions of the GM driver. This is done from the Bindings tab of the Network Control Panel. Note that bindings are being shown for all adapters.

Select Enable and exit the dialog. Windows will recompute the network bindings and bring up the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties dialog box if more information is needed. It may be necessary to select the Myricom Myrinet Adapter from the Adapter list if multiple network adapters are installed on the computer. Consult your network administrator for the correct values to use.
